Bill Idle
William Lynn (Bill) Idle was born in Columbia, Missouri on October 27, 1953 to Vivian Todd Idle and Dorsey Frances Idle. He grew up in Hallsville, the next town over, as one of four children in his family. Bill had an older brother Don, an older sister Glenda (Dena), and a fraternal twin Alan Ray (Ray).
Bill attended Hickman High School and the University of Missouri in Columbia. While involved in a figure skating club, Bill met Linda Kay Slinkard, who he later married in 1979. Two years later, their daughter Laura Elizabeth Idle was born.
Bill moved to the East Coast to work for the City of Greensboro, North Carolina in the Finance Department. He later moved to Richmond, Virginia to work for the V.C.U. Health System, where he spent the next 27 years. First, he took a position as a Financial Transplant Coordinator. Then, he shifted into his dream job, as Contract Administrator for the Department of Managed Care. His co-workers were like family to him.
In the office, Bill was valued for his work ethic, as well as for the compassionate care he gave patients he worked with. Out of the office, he was a mean miniature golf player and budding disc golf player. Bill can be given credit for having a unique sense of humor. He loved to travel. And he took pride in being a dad for his daughter.
A public service will not be held, to ensure the well-being of others. Instead, a small private gathering will be held to scatter his ashes and celebrate his life at the James River. If one wishes to pay their respects to Bill, wander down to the water’s edge. His spirit will be there.
In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to honor the life of Bill. Let his passing serve to remind the living how precious and unpredictable life is. In these times that we are spending apart from one another, may we embrace gratitude for what we have shared in the past, all that we still have in the present, and what we can look forward to in the future. Take a moment to open your heart; to love, life, Bill, yourself, and everyone.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother Don. He is survived by his daughter Laura and her partner, Richard (Richie) Brick of Marengo, Wisconsin; his siblings Ray and Dena; and his former wife, Lynn, all of Columbia, MO. He will be missed.
