Shirley Temple Smith
Shirley Temple Smith, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on August 16, 1936, in Raven, Virginia, Shirley was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew her.
Shirley was the devoted wife of the late Samuel L. Smith, with whom she shared a loving marriage that spanned over five decades. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Her unwavering dedication to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
A 60-year resident of Richmond, VA, Shirley was known for her generous spirit and her commitment to helping others. She dedicated her time and energy to making a positive impact. Shirley was a lifelong nurse at both St. Mary’s and Stewart Circle Hospitals. Her dedication to her patients was a testament to her selfless nature and her desire to uplift those around her.
Shirley had a passion for cooking and gardening. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her love for nature. She also enjoyed sharing her cooking talents with family and friends, often hosting gatherings that brought family and friends together in joy and celebration.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Mark (Miriam) and Timothy (Dee), four grandchildren, Rafael and Jon Hernandez, Brittany Basham (Chase), and Courtney Thompson (Robert), and four great grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A private family service will be held to honor Shirley’s life at Forest Lawn Cemetery on December 5, 2024. Shirley will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
