Sandra Clark Long

Sandra Clark Long of Disputanta VA passed away peacefully in her home on March 8, 2024. She was born in Williamsport PA on Oct 6, 1940 and has resided in Prince George for over 60 years.  She is preceded in death by her parents Morton E Clark & Kathryn L Clark and sister Barbara Hogwood (Thomas).

She was a determined and feisty, hardworking woman who devoted her life to her beloved Newville Country Store.  She took over the store in 1976 and spent the rest of her life taking care of business!  She was also an incredibly talented craftswoman whose knitting and crocheting skills were amazing. She enjoyed her ladies’ group, The Knit Wits, who met at the store each week to learn to knit or crochet and to just fellowship together.

She is survived by her children: Julie L Helmer and Philip W Long, Jr.  and his wife Janice, her 9 grandchildren: Jonathan Helmer (Hannah), David Helmer, Savannah Newman (Cory), Andrew Helmer, Amanda Helmer, Michael Helmer, Wayne Long (Ericka), Daniel Long, and Cody Long and 8 great-grandchildren: Maggie, Lelia, Nathaniel, Eliza, Timothy, Jensen, Finley and Ainsley. She will also be greatly missed by devoted friend, Lisa Long.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 10:00 am at Newville United Methodist Church. Memorial Service will follow at the church at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Crater Community Hospice. Their compassionate care was a blessing.

I was told, when I was a baby and beyond fussy, she was one of the few people I would go to. I just loved her! Her feisty spirit lives on in her children and grandchildren! She visited my grandmother a lot when she was very ill. I will always be grateful for that kindness. We certainly will miss you.
