Martin Joseph Pluth

Martin Joseph Pluth passed away June 28, 2021, at the age of 44 at the Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA. He was born in St. Louis, MO St. John’s Hospital on January 22, 1977, the son of Bernard and Anna (Martin) Pluth. He graduated from Dublin Coffman High School and the University of Cincinnati.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa (Schwickerath) Pluth, mother, Anna Pluth and brother, Bernard Pluth, III. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Pluth.

As we arrive at the conclusion of Marty’s story, we wonder how to summarize the infinite love of one man in a finite space. Wherever he went, he found a way to connect with people from all walks of life.

Marty was an Eagle Scout and his love of the outdoors, from hikes, canoeing, and kayaking to days-long camping trips with his best friend, never dimmed. He will be well-remembered for his love of sports, especially the Buffalo Bills, and sharing that passion knew no limits-he would drive eight hours to surprise you on your doorstep with a cooler. He had a deep, abiding love for music and games, and was well known for his ability to quote 80s movies. He loved to cook, usually enough for a small army, even if dinner was just himself and his wife. He could “throw together” a world-class fondue in minutes. Marty’s sense of humor would immediately put you at ease.

With his beloved wife, Marty found grace in the arms of his Lord and connected with his church families in the same way he did everything else-with his entire heart. He loved working with sound and light teams to create incredible worship experiences.

He left this earth as he lived on it-sharing his inspirational love and generous spirit as an organ donor, giving of himself to save at least three lives. To have known him is the greatest gift that he could have ever given us, and our memories are a special bond that will never fade. Dr. Seuss said, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your local church, Rock by the Sea, or The Nature Conservancy. Marty’s family would also encourage you to follow in his footsteps and become an organ donor.

Memorial services will be held in Richmond, VA, and Columbus, OH. Time and dates to be announced at and on social media.
