Margie Dean Speight
Life and times of Margie Dean Speight – December 27, 2024
Margie was born June 17,1945, to the late parents of Thurman and Margaret Stanley.
She was born and raised in Dublin County, NC. Margie relocated to Queens, NY in the 1960’s. It was in New York where she met the love of her life, husband, Herbert Speight, whom she was blessed to share a loving union for more than 50 years. Together, they took turns being each other’s caregivers, demonstrating the true meanings of “for better or worse” and “in sickness and in health”.
Margie had a nurturing spirit and a love for children. This led her to a lifelong career with the New York Board of Education. As a paraprofessional, Margie had dedicated more than 30 years of service to students with special needs before retiring and moving to Richmond, Virginia.
Although never having children of her own, Margie was a mother to many, including her nephew Thurman Lamont Stanley, whom she helped raise in the home.
Margie was a woman who had tremendous faith and gave her life to Christ as a young woman. She was a faithful member of Mount Sinai Seventh Day Adventist for decades. Margie never hesitated to share her faith and offer encouragement to others.
Margie enjoyed cooking, watching art shows, and shopping, especially at Macy’s Department Store. She spent so much time there, she could have had stock at Macy’s. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents Thurman & Margaret Stanley, sisters Dorothy M. Speight and Patricia Faye Thomas, stepson Herbert Jr. and niece, Danielle Sears.
Margie is survived by her loving husband Herbert Speight, and her six remaining siblings Joyce Wright (Doc), Arthur Stanley (Grace), Lester Stanley (Gracie), Carolyn Stanley, Marion Stanley, Jackie Collins, and lifelong sister in love, Harriet Harper.
She also leaves to mourn her sister-in laws Margaret and Jeanette, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Margie will be missed, and her memory will ALWAYS live on in our hearts.
