Lawrence Williams, Sr.

Lawrence Williams, Sr., 71, was born on July 3, 1952 in Leaksville, N.C. to the late James Williams and Adlean Parrish Williams.  He was reared in Cascade, VA where he was baptized and accepted Christ at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Pittsylvania County Schools and later joined the Navy during the Vietnam era.  He was a well-loved and respected member of the VetLink Veteran’s Outreach Center, in Richmond, VA; where he often stopped in for a meal, a chat, or to shoot pool with his fellow veterans.

He was also well-known at the Hunter-Holmes Veteran’s Hospital, where he was loved by all.  He took great pride in being able to assist patients while visiting the hospital.  He was also quite gifted mechanically, and spent many hours tinkering under the hood of his beloved pickup truck.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Johnsie Lee Williams and his brother, James Dillard Williams.

Lawrence passed away in Richmond, VA, on January 10, 2024, and leaves behind one son, Lawrence Williams, Jr.; as well as a whole host of family, fellow-veterans, and friends, to mourn his loss.  He will be greatly missed!  As Lawrence was fond of saying, “Let’s leave it in God’s hands. He’s got this!”

A memorial service will be held in Danville, VA on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Danville Memorial Gardens, 510 Church Ave. Danville, VA 24541.
