Larry Irvin Katz

Larry Irvin Katz, 72, of Chesterfield County, VA , passed away peacefully at home on 12/29/2022.

Larry was born on June 12, 1950 to Hyman and Sarah Katz in Richmond, VA. After Larry graduated from Petersburg High School, he went on to a long career at Honeywell/AdvanSix surrounded by many close co-workers who have become an extension of the family.

In 1979, Larry met his future bride Diane through mutual friends and as they say, the rest is history. In 1983 Larry and Diane married and have shared 39 more happy years together. They also shared three daughters together, Laurie Huff (m. Ben Huff) and Amy Sewell (m. Gerald Sewell) and Mandy Van Driest (m. Thomas Van Driest).

In 2018, Larry retired from his career after 44 years and spent his time with family and friends, traveling, sports and was always up for a good concert. He loved his 5 grandchildren, Cody, Kendric, Khali, Morgan (m. Zackariah) and Thomas Jr. (e. Kathlein) and 3 great-grandchildren, Thomas III, Natalie and most recently Liam. All who have brought many years of pride and happiness watching them grow.

Larry loved his family dearly. His wife Diane was the light of his life. He was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, colleague and friend. He touched the lives of so many people. Larry was a hard- working man of strong character, and exceptional sense of humor, known by many for his one-liners and his quick-wit, he will be truly missed and never, ever, be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life is planned for January 14, 2023 between 1-3 PM at:

Destination Church, 5258 Oaklawn Blvd, Hopewell, VA 23860.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Autism Society of Central Virginia, an organization close to Larry’s heart. Autism Society of Central Virginia, 8730 Stony Point Pkwy, Ste. 150, Richmond, VA 23235 (804)257-0192. info@ascv.org

Larry was a close and dear friend that I have know for 45 years. We went to concerts played golf and we went in a cruise together. I got to know Diane Laurie Mandy and Amy over the years. Larry was so proud of me when I retired I followed my dream and moved to Florida. Him and Diane came to visit us in June. RIP MY dear friend till we meet again. The myth the legend that’s my dad. His one liners he’s so well known for as he’s touched so many lives over the years. Dad this is not goodbye , it’s we will see you again someday. Know that you will live on in our hearts everyday. For instance when I hear a song on the radio that we may have seen live in concert somewhere I’ll have fond memories of you and our precious time spent together . We have a hole in our family now but trust that we will be strong and carry you with us everyday in our lives. May you rest in peace and watch over us all. My heart is broke but it will mend just knowing you will always be near. Love you 😘

I am a cousin of Larry’s. My father,Louis Katz, was Hyman Katz’s brother. Unfortunately, we never kept in touch, but I am so sorry for your loss.

Dad as our hearts are broken now rest assured that you will be with us daily close to our hearts. With just a simple song on the radio I will have those fond memories of many concerts we shared and time we spent together. We couldn’t have asked for a better dad, husband, friend or grandfather. With all your funny one liners to all those heart felt messages of love just know that you will be greatly missed. This is not goodbye for now, it’s till we see you again someday. Rest In Peace dad, we love ya.❤️🙏🏻
