Joan Kangas

Joan Kangas of Richmond, Virginia (formerly of Duluth, MN and Aberdeen, SD) passed quietly on Thursday, August 4th. A kind and compassionate woman, she held nothing but love for those around her. She particularly had a soft spot for animals and donated to numerous charities. Her smile will forever go unmatched. She is preceded in death by her grandson Tony Makela III. She is survived by her loving husband Randy Kangas, her siblings Mike Nordberg, Mary Ellen Nix and Pete Nordberg, her five children Anthony Makela Jr., James Makela (Kyong Cha), Ronald Makela (Karen), Theresa Nunez, and Carolyn Rice (Timothy). Her grandchildren Ricky, Mikey, Michael (Stephanie), Joe, Cassandra, Jordan (Heidi), Brynn (David) Tory, Breanna, Tyler, Austen, Nathaniel, Cameron, Eunmi, Eunjin, and Eunjung, and seven great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church 1400 Horsepen Rd. Richmond, VA 23226 Wednesday August 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
