Jerald Forrest Mahone
Jerald Forrest Mahone, 73, of Ashland, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2024, in Ashland. Born on January 31, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia, Jerald was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.Jerald, known to his loved ones as “Jerry,” had a vibrant personality and a zest for life. He had a deep love for music and had an extensive collection of records. He was the lead singer in a local band during his high school days. He was also a talented Alto saxophonist. Jerry was an avid Beatles fan to say the least. Jerry had a remarkable creative and artistic ability and enjoyed dancing, photography, traveling, and attending concerts. Jerry also took much pride in being the family “jokester”. His infectious sense of humor would bring laughter to any situation. Above all, Jerry cherished his family and found his greatest joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.Jerry was a resident of Hanover Manor Assisted Living in Ashland, Virginia, where he received excellent care from the dedicated staff. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hanover Manor team and the hospice team of Ascend Hospice of Henrico for their compassionate support during Jerry’s final months.Jerry is survived by his daughters, Amy Metzner (husband Billy) and Mackenzie Rice (husband Colby), and his sons, Joshua Mahone, Michael Mahone, and Brandon Greenhalgh (wife Katelyn). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Mariah Mahone, Elijah Mahone, Keziah Mahone, Angelica Mahone, Nathan Mahone, Josephine Rice, Baylee Greenhalgh, and Wrennly Greenhalgh. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Sandra Jean Smith (George Morris), brother-in-law, Paul Williams and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Thomas Mahone and Pocahontas Francis Forrest Mahone, as well as his brothers, Skip Mahone and Joseph Mahone, and his sister, Kay Williams.Jerry graduated from Warwick High School in 1968. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1968 to 1974, contributing to the defense of our nation.Throughout his career, Jerry worked for various companies, including S&K Menswear, Kuppenheimer Menswear, Walmart Portrait Studios, and 7-11. He also worked for LensCrafters of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and retired from PNC Bank in Fredericksburg, Virginia.The family will receive friends at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Whiteheads Grove Baptist Church, 18366 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, VA. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am, also at Whiteheads Grove Baptist Church. Jerry will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2700 Parish Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following organizations: Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/), Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org – Disabled American Veterans Charity) or Ascend Hospice of Henrico, Virginia.
The compassionate professionals at Richmond Coach, located in Henrico, Virginia, are assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.Jerry’s memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his love of music, his infectious sense of humor, and his unwavering devotion to his family.
