Herbert L. Patton

Herbert L. Patton, 86, of Mineral, Virginia pasted peacefully on February 25, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Patton, his daughter Dianna Patton and son-in law Jet Thomas of Mineral, and his grandson J.W. Thomas (Katie) of Goochland.  He is predeceased in death by his father, John Patton, his mother, Bess Patton, and his daughter Carolyn Patton.

Herbert was born in Grayson County, Virginia on December 10, 1938. He graduated from Fries High School in 1957 before moving to Chicago, Illinois. There he met Frances and started his family. In 1972 they moved their family back to Virginia where they settled in Louisa County. He was a long-time member of the Holy Grove and Gum Spring communities. After a distinguished career as an outside salesman, he retired to find a passion for cooking, which lead to his second career as a short order cook before going to work at Ukrop’s cooking rotisserie chickens. He was also an avid outdoorsman who delighted in tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, nurturing his strawberries, blueberries, and asparagus patch as well as being on his tracker bush-hogging his fields.  Additionally, he was a sports enthusiast with a particular fondness for his Cubs.

However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.  He will be deeply missed.

There will be a service on March 1st at Gum Spring United Methodist Church – 191 Cross County Road, Gum Spring, VA 23065, at 11 am.  An internment is at the Church’s Peace Garden.
