Eva Maria Carleo Van Deusen

It is with heavy heart that the family of Eva Maria Carleo Van Deusen share the news of her sudden passing on February 12, 2021, at the age of 64.  Daughter of the late Vincent Anselmo Carleo and the late Betty Egts Carleo Bean, Eva embraced life much like her parents did.  She is survived by her husband Douglas Van Deusen; older sister Carmela Louise Carleo; younger sister Vincenta Carleo Guertin (Gregory); son Vincent William Jacinto (Latoya); stepdaughter Stephanie Mendez (Robert); stepson Michael Jacinto; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; cousins, dear friends and numerous colleagues.

A resident of Mineral, Virginia, for the last few years, Eva was born and raised in Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk Catholic High, Class of 1974.  Her professional career spanned 40 years in the healthcare industry providing electronic security configurations, analysis, and support.  As a Senior Security Consultant within the Epic community for the last 15 years, she delivered Epic security builds to hospital systems across the United States including Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Penn Medicine, HonorHealth, Sutter Health, Texas Children’s Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Allina Health Care, California Pacific Medical Center, St. Vincent’s, Saint Luke’s Health System, Doctor’s Regional Health System, and Sentara Health System.  Married to Doug for 26 years, she racked up many a frequent flier mile for work as his career in the Navy kept them on the move between duty stations in Norfolk, Florida, Texas and California.

Even as a young child, Eva could easily make friends and draw people into her circle, many of whom remained close throughout her life.  As hard as she worked, it was fun and laughter with friends and family that she relished the most.  The frequent cross-country travels and adventures Eva and Doug shared were memorable and full of stories to be told upon returning home.  She looked forward to times spent with her grandchildren, enabling their talents, and showering them with love.  She was a very good cook; always enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine; loved sports, following the New Orleans Saints, NASCAR, and collegiate soccer; adored her dog, Bridgette, and two new cats that were just settling in.

Her sisters would like to thank Erika Bush, one of her closest friends, for facilitating medical information during such a difficult week for all of us and to Leslie Nicholas, Doug’s sister, for traveling from Oregon at a moment’s notice to be with him.

Eva was an organ donor and in Doug’s words, “Go save some lives, baby girl.  Go save some lives.”  A private celebration of her life will be held at a later time.  Memorial donations are welcome in her name and can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, ASPCA, your local food bank, or a charity of your choice.
