Edward Shimkus
Edward Shimkus went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2023. From an early age, Ed was an avid fan of the three “R’s”: Reading, Rocks, and Reptiles. Later in life he discovered photography, and a fourth “R”: Rolls of film (Some of these hobbies were more readily embraced by his family than others.)
Ed’s intense loyalty was embodied in his faith, in his work life—a DuPont employee from college graduation until retirement—and in his personal life as devoted husband to his college sweetheart. To his children, he passed along his fierce work ethic, his tendency to procrastinate, and a staggering number of photographs taken at every life event imaginable.
A child at heart, he enjoyed the little things: clever stories, classical music, power tools, and especially home-made apple pie. However, Ed was happiest when he was out and about with the love of his life: his wife, Carol. This year marked their 49th anniversary.
Ed is survived by his wife, 4 sisters, 3 children, 6 much-loved grandchildren, the latest in a line of tubby orange tabby cats, and many memories. A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church.
