Douglas Wade Campbell
Douglas Wade Campbell, 59, passed away from complications of pancreatic cancer on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. A casual gathering to remember Doug will be held on Sunday, September 15th, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Harbour Pointe Clubhouse in Brandermill (5710 Promontory Pointe Rd, Midlothian, VA 23112). A memorial service will be held where Doug and Ann were married at Yeocomico Episcopal Church in Kinsale, Virginia, on Saturday, October 26, at 11:00am.
The youngest child of James Stuart Campbell, Sr. and Rosalie Judy Campbell, Doug was born on May 28, 1965, in Richmond, residing there and in Powhatan his entire life. He was a devoted family man, faithful friend, loyal employee and co-worker as a machinist at GD-USA, and a former volunteer Little League baseball and softball coach for his children’s teams. In recent years, he became a willing chauffeur to adventure with Ann throughout Virginia and West Virginia on many genealogical expeditions. His most recent accomplishments were a complete conversion as a Tar Heel fan and an admitted cat admirer. Doug was known for his mechanical expertise and easygoing temperament, possessing a sense of humor and eagerness to help anyone at any time. His uncomplicated Christian faith gave him the strength to endure his unexpected cancer journey, and he was at peace with our Lord knowing he was closer to his eternal destination.
Predeceased by his parents, Doug is survived by his wife Ann Groseclose Campbell of the home; son Stuart Preston Campbell of Smithfield, VA; daughter Caroline Eskridge Campbell of Bon Air, VA; siblings: Jean C. Campbell (husband Russ Hayden) of Shelburne, VT; James S. Campbell, Jr. (wife Melanie) of Amherst, VA; Leslie A. Campbell of Palmyra, VA; Clyde W. Campbell (Sylvia) of Powhatan, VA; sisters-in-law: Martha G. Kolling (husband Chuck) of Newport News, VA; Sally G. Gordon (husband Norman) of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
