Claude Chester Boggess
Claude Chester Boggess, born on February 25, 1944, in Kenna, West Virginia, peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on March 8, 2024, in Mechanicsville, Virginia, at the age of 80. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Claude was known for his kind and courageous spirit, his sense of humor, and his practical jokes that always brought laughter to those around him. He was a generous and honest man with a strong faith, who worked hard and was always punctual. Claude was devoted to his family and friends, always showing his affection and gratitude for their presence in his life.
Claude found solace and community in his places of worship, pastoring a church in West Virginia, and as a member of Atlee Community Church where, over the years, he participated in many service ministries.
In his career, Claude worked at True Temper Corporation, alongside his father, before moving on to the Newport News Shipyard and finally to Virginia Power, where he enjoyed traveling to various power stations and dedicated 30 years of service before retiring.
His leisure hours were spent in the gentle embrace of nature, whether it was with a fishing rod in hand, doing yardwork, or simply sitting on the porch watching the birds. Listening to country music and painting by number were among his favorite pleasures. He also enjoyed volunteering at Sheltering Arms Club Rec program fishing clinics, casino night event, serving Thanksgiving dinner, and playing Santa Claus.
Claude will be deeply missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion in his wife, Valerie; his sons, Jeff (Lanette) and Jerry (Charleen); bonus daughters Lauren and Stephanie (David), and bonus son, Jeffrey, his 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, Brother Burt, Sister Beth (Joe), nieces & nephews, and all who knew and loved him.
A service to celebrate Claude’s life will be held at Atlee Community Church, 7171 Verdi Lane, Mechanicsville, VA on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any donations made in honor of Claude Boggess to Atlee Church or Sheltering Arms Club Rec Fund.
