Charlotte Ann Coghill Vaughan
Charlotte Ann Coghill Vaughan, 87, of Richmond, VA passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021 at Henrico Doctors Hospital after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Charlotte was born on July 9, 1933, in Tappahannock, VA and graduated from Tappahannock High School in 1950. She moved to Richmond as a teenager and enrolled in Smithdeal-Massey Business College after securing a scholarship from the Dupont Family. She lived at the Wilson Inn in Church Hill and made lifelong friends with several of her roommates.
After graduation, Charlotte started her career in corporate America, 1950’s style, when steno pads and Smith Corona typewriters ruled. She met a handsome blond hair, blue eyed southern gentleman named Murle Linwood Vaughan, Sr. in the early 1950’s, and they married on January 22, 1955 in Richmond. Charlotte and Murle started attending the Masters Golf Tournament in 1959 where they had front row seats and saw all the legends over the years. During their 47-year marriage, they resided in Richmond, VA, Memphis, TN, Colonial Heights, VA, Cary, NC and finally in Myrtle Beach, SC, where Murle passed away in 2002. Charlotte enjoyed living for 36 years along the sun kissed Grand Strand Coast with her many friends and plenty of quality beach time. In 2013, Charlotte returned to Richmond where she lived in an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility as her journey progressed. Even in the later stages of her illness, Charlotte had unique moments of clarity, but the disease was cruel.
She is survived by two sons, Murle L. Vaughan, Jr “Lin” and his wife, Nita of Richmond, VA, and Steven L. Vaughan, “Lyle” of Chevy Chase, MD, as well as two grandchildren: Murle L. Vaughan, III, “Woody” of Richmond and Abigail L. Vaughan “Abby” of Boulder, CO, and one sister, Alma Brizendine of Tappahannock, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Foundation: alzinfo.org, with notifications sent to Lyle Vaughan, 4743 Bradley Blvd, #401, Chevy Chase, MD, 20815.
