Debra Lynn Curtis
(Virginia) — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Debra Lynn Curtis (née Simcock), lovingly known as Debbie, who passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Virginia after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer. Debbie, 66, was born on October 20, 1958, in Ewing, New Jersey, to Jean F. Simcock and William Simcock, Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.
Debbie’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering strength. After being told she had less than six months to live nearly three years ago, Debbie defied all odds with her determination to spend as much time as possible with her beloved family. Her grandchildren were her heart’s greatest treasures, and she lived each day with the fierce love of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her loyal husband, Tony Curtis, with whom she celebrated her 39th wedding anniversary on December 28, 2024. She also leaves behind her three children: Nicholas, Michael, and Tara; and her cherished grandchildren: Tessa, Terra, and Johnithan; who will forever feel the warmth of her presence in their lives.
Debbie is also survived by her sisters—Jeannie, Linda, Maryann, and Susan—and her many friends, including her lifelong best friends, MaryAlice and Karen, who will remember her as a source of love and joy. Debbie had a remarkable ability to form deep connections with those around her, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
After graduating from Ewing High School in Ewing, New Jersey, Debbie embarked on a life of love and dedication. She moved to Newbury, England, in 1985 to marry her husband, Tony, and later settled in Colonial Heights, Virginia, in 1994, where they raised their three children. Debbie cultivated many meaningful friendships over the years and became a beloved presence in every community she joined. Debbie’s love of music, especially the songs of Jimmy Buffett, reflected her zest for life. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—sunny days, heartfelt laughter, and moments shared with loved ones.
According to her wishes, Debbie will be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring so that friends and family can honor her memory. Details about the celebration will be shared at a later date.
Debbie’s legacy of kindness, courage, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be forever missed and cherished, but her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for those she leaves behind.

I first met Debbie many years ago when she first visited England, around 1968, I lived next door to Debbie’s grandparents. It was the fist time her Mother had visited since leaving to live in America. We struck up a friendship Debbie, Maryann and myself. We spent alot of time together the girls used to sleep and my house. Not that we got that much sleep I recall!!. From then on every summer they came over we spent our time together.
Debbie was always the more outgoing of the two sisters Maryann was a little quieter,but still fun to be with. Years went by waiting for every summer to come around.
As children do we grew up I left my family home married and moved to Germany.I last physically saw Debbie about1986/ 87 Iwas ho.e visiting my parents and Debbie was visiting her grandmother, I had my children with me and Debbie had a little boy.Years passed and eventually ewe became Facebook friends.
When Debbie announced she had cancer I prayed constantly for her,she beat the odds she was given and lasted three years. It was a joy to see her attend her son Nicholas marriage,see her with her grandaughters..
I have lovely memories of the girl Debbie and I shall cherish them forever. I thank our Lord that she is now out of pain and with her Mom and Dad and all those she loved who also passed.
