Lourdes Miles, 87 passed away on December 21, 2023. She went peacefully surrounded by her children. She was born August 17,1936 in Spanish Harlem, New York, the daughter of Valentine and Rafaela (Moreno) Ruiz.

 

Lourdes graduated from Mabel Dean Bacon High School in 1954. She worked as a clerk at St. Claire’s hospital in New York City. She married Walter E. Moore in 1957,raised their children.  She became a single mother. With the support and encouragement of doctors she worked with  she studied and became a histology technician. Later becoming  a supervisor.  In 1969, Lourdes re-married. She married Ernestine Miles. In 1976, Lourdes was forced to retire due to an illness. Lourdes volunteered with the American Cancer Society for many years. In 1990, Lourdes and Ernest moved to Richmond, Virginia. She loved to crochet,  listen to a variety of music, watch cowboys and soap operas.

 

In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her brothers, Robert and Valentine Jr. and his wife Ada Mae Ruiz. Surviving  her are her daughters Robin Milagros Moore of Richmond, Virginia and Delores Miles of Brooklyn, New York, son Anthony Walter Moore and his wife Susan of Boston, Massachusetts, three grandchildren Jonathan, Ashley, and Joshua, two great granddaughters Khloe and London, one brother, Jose Ruiz and his wife, Beatrice of Palm Bay, Florida and one sister, Gladys Warren of Palm Bay, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2p.m. Thursday, January 4th, 2024 at  Unity of Richmond, 800 Blanton Ave. Richmond, Virginia 23221. Those who wish to remember Lourdes in a special way may make a gift to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 50 Memphis TN 38101-9929.
