Vivian Mae Dinges
Vivian Mae Dinges passed August 16, 2023, at the age of 82 from complications of a stroke. Vivian was born December 26, 1940, in Cairo, Ohio, where she lived with her parents, Lewis and Hazel Altstaetter. She was one of ten brothers and sisters: Nona, Phyllis, Ronald, Martin, Joyce, Luemma, Leroy, Emerson, and Gordon. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Noah J. Dinges, her parents, and siblings Nona Sybert (Bob), Martin Altstaetter, Luemma Peck, Emerson Altstaetter, sister-in-law Linda Altstaetter, and brother-in law Skip Edelson.
She is survived by her children Virginia Lee Foxwell Butler (Marc) and Susan Ann Foxwell Cannon (Steve), grandchild Joshua Cannon, and her sisters and brothers: Phyllis Alt (Hurdy), Ronald Altstaetter, Joyce Edelson (Don Gantzer), Leroy Altstaetter (Alicia), Gordon Altstaetter (Vicki), sisters-in law Ruth Altstaetter, Alice Altstaetter, and many other extended family.
After graduating from Kalida High School and passing the Civil Service Exam, she packed her two suitcases and rode a bus from Ohio to Washington, DC, to begin her career. She worked for the Deputy Commander Fleet Support and Supply Operations for the U.S. Navy as a stenographer for several years before transferring to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a Foreign and Domestic Defense Activities Specialist. She was very proud of the work she accomplished.
Vivian’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, family and friends: talking, telling tales, enjoying a glass of wine, and feeding everyone (she was lovingly known as a food-pusher). After retiring, she and Noah moved to Ruther-Glen, Virginia, where they made many wonderful friends in their neighborhood, at the 50+ Club, and at church.
Memorial Services will be held at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 18580 Partlow Road, Beaverdam, VA, 23015 on August 26 at 10:00. An additional celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rehoboth United Methodist Church.
