Richard Anthony Larsen 62, of Glen Allen, Virginia, sadly left us on April 1, 2023 following a long battle with health issues, surrounded by his loving family. 

Richard grew up in Mobridge, South Dakota.  He graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.  Richard continued his education in science at the University of South Carolina where he received his Doctorate in Chemistry.  

Dr. Larsen worked for over 40 years as an Analytical Chemist.  His work took him to many different countries as a consultant and educator.  He published many scientific papers and chaired many committees for the Association for the Standardization of Testing and Materials (ASTM).  Dr. Larsen shared his passion for science with students at PITT CON, an annual science convention over many years teaching Spectroscopy courses.  

Dr. Larsen enjoyed time with his family, friends and pets.  He enjoyed sports and golf.  His smile lit up the room and his cooking was the highlight of many family occasions.  

Richard is predeceased by his parents Lowell and Eleanor Larsen.  Dr. Larsen is survived by his wife, Patricia Larsen (nee Hart), Scott Graves (stepson), Heather Gramebouer (stepdaughter), Sadie and Doug Sackreiter (cousins), Janice and Tom DiNapoli (sisters) Brandi Pooler and Darci McPeek.  Friends, Family and the science community.  Celebration of life will be at a later date.
