Sandra “Sandy” Louise Siler (78) of Richmond, Va., born May 15, 1943 in Denver, Colorado, passed onto her heavenly home, surrounded by loved ones on January 14, 2022.
Sandy is proceeded in death by her father William F, Cross, Mother Florence A Saunders, Step Father Arthur Saunders, sibling’s; Edgar Gene Cross Sr and Betty L. Johns.
Sandy is survived by her loving sister, Sharron L Voelcker and her children; Donna Ellis (Mike), Katherine McGuckin, James Layne Jr., Robyn Richardson, Robert Siler Jr. (Christine), Darren Siler, Michael Siler (Amy), Life-long friend/family member Marsha Gebhardt, 23 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren, many many nieces, nephews and friends.
Although Sandy was born in Colorado, she spent most of her childhood raised in Des Moines, Iowa before residing with family in Richmond, Va.
As an adult she lived several years with her children in upstate New York. Sandy attended and graduated from the B.O.C.E.S. Practical School of Nursing as an L.P.N.
Sandy and family later returned from New York to her former home in Richmond, Va. She continued her life- long career in nursing. Sandy was a caring, compassionate nurse, loved by her patients and respected by her colleagues. She was nominated “Nurse of the year” on two separate occasions before retiring from Bon Secours hospital in 2017.
Sandy has always had an creative, artistic, imaginative spirit. While living in New York, raising a family and working ,Sandy honed in on her many talents – writing, painting, acting and all things expressive. Her many creative talents left you in awe.
Sandy was a gifted writer. She wrote for the local paper, The Sandy Creek News. Her weekly columm featured and showcased her poetic side, endearing spirit and witty sense of humor. Also at this time she joined the community theatre group “Salt City Playhouse”. She acted in several plays and even passed the “Acting bug” along to some of her children. Her aspirations and interests was a family adventure.
Upon returning to Richmond Va., Sandy continued her acting in the local community. She was an integral member of “The Troubadours” and C.A.T. Theatre. She acted in several plays and was also the Prop Master’s assistant. She was tirelessly dedicated as well as committed to any and everything she set her heart and mind to.
Through all of Sandy’s accomplishments, she would tell you with a sparkle and gleam in her eye’s….. Her greatest accomplishments are her children and grandchildren. Her love, passion, warmth and commitment to her family had no bounds.
All who knew and loved Sandy, knew she had a loving, gracious and forgiving spirit. She was quick-witted, with a remarkable sense of humor, clever, imaginative, down to earth. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews; crafting, painting, making jewelry or simply sitting and watching a good movie. She had an unique, eclectic style. She collected Wizard Of Oz and flamingos. Film memorabilia and wind chimes. One of her favorite poems was “When I am Old, I Shall Wear Purple”.
Sandy deeply loved her family with passion and extended that love to her friends. If you were her friend, you were friends for life. She was a loving, affectionate and nurturing soul.
Sandy was a prayerful women, who loved God. A true angel on earth.
She was a treasure to her family and will be dearly missed.
