Robert E. Keenan, MD
RICHMOND, VA – Robert E. Keenan MD., 91 of Richmond, VA, passed away Thursday July 29, 2021. He is survived by his children, Robert E. Keenan Jr. (Mary), Timothy P. Keenan (Julie) and Deborah L. Keenan; sisters, Ruth K. Smith and Barbara K. Delgadillo; brother Gerald H. Keenan (Edith); four grandchildren, Kelsey R. Keenan, Jessica A. Keenan, Trevor P. Keenan and Nathan E. Keenan. He attended St Paul’s Catholic Church in Richmond, VA. After entering the Air Force in 1950, he attended Basic Military Training with his younger brother Richard Keenan at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After Basic, he trained as a Radio Operator for a flight crew. Through the GI Bill he attended college at Mansfield State Teachers College, where he met his
future wife, Rebecca A. Smith (1938-99). From there he went on to medical school, graduating from University of Pittsburg. He continued his service in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain as a Flight Surgeon. After his residency, he went to work for Norwich Pharmaceuticals in Norwich, NY, followed by A.H Robins in Richmond. After a number of years at Robins he got a
job working for the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C. where he remained until he retired. He will be interred with his parents, George and Elizabeth Keenan in Lebanon, PA in a private family ceremony.
